HOUSE
HOUSE is a site-specific installation exhibited at a repurposed mall turned art gallery in Marshall, Texas. The narrow, cavernous space was the inspiration for what developed into two large drawings of the interior of a shotgun house. The concept expressed fitting a structure, namely a dwelling where a family live and gather, within a separate, larger building used for community gatherings. Other components of the exhibition included artwork by local fourth- and fifth-grade students as well as a curated selection of area artists’ depictions of historical houses in Marshall. Displays detailing the process of the large-scale drawings informed viewers about image enlargement for art installations. A companion coloring book featuring visual examples of the town’s abundant architectural heritage was introduced at a reception for the community.
