Watercolor

As a lifelong artist, I enjoy exploring and working with different art media. However, I find the versatile medium of watercolor provides me with a certain level of confidence and control in expressing many of my conceptual ideas. After using watercolor for several years and taking classes to advance my skill, I’ve developed a style that often leaves me content with and even proud of the work I produce.

Still Life with Tulips (Watercolor, 18.5 x 15.5)

Extinguish (Hans attempts to snuff out a perfectly blameless French strudel) (Watercolor, 7.75 x 18.75) In the series, Titled Movie Stills, paused moments of film cinematography are combined with poetic lines to form ‘sub’ titles.

Extinguish (Jesse abruptly ends the breakfast conversation) (Watercolor, 7.75 x 14) From the series Titled Movie Stills

Connecticut River (I could see by the line of trees, there’s a river nearby) (Watercolor, 14.75 x 19.875 ) Another medium I enjoy working with is photography. Using sourced personal images from traveling, I recreate scenes in watercolor that hold memories, evoke nostalgia, or make unusual and aesthetically pleasing compositions.

Aspen Curve (Watercolor, 21.5 x 14.5) Often while traveling on road trips, the driver can’t (or won’t) stop for photographic opportunities. By including road signage in final compositions, tension is achieved highlighting the ongoing human vs. nature struggle (as well as that of driver vs. passenger).
